DID YOU KNOW?

Is Unsanitary Water a Crisis?  Did You Know...

About 800 million people don't have safe water to drink or use?

Lots of children walk more than 3 miles (6K) to get water?

They do this multiple times a day.

They miss school to traveling to get water.

Children get sick and even worse from not having sanitary water to drink.

We can do our part by raising awareness.

We can be good neighbors and conserve water.

We can support our neighbors by walking for water with them.

Yes, unsanitary water IS a crisis that needs our help!

Read here about the top 10 countries with unsanitary water.

Buliding Stamina for the 6K

Planning for the 6K

Students in Mrs. Browder's class learned they need to build stamina to prepare for their #MockGlobal6K.

They started two weeks ago at 20 minutes and added ten minutes to each day's walk.

This was a great way for students to figure out how to calculate using the concept of progression.

Save the Date

Mrs. Browder's Kindergarten Class invites you to save the date for the Mock Global 6K on May 23, 2021.  Your family can chart its own route to walk and raise awareness of our the water crisis in neighboring countries and water conservation.

Making Water-Themed Shirt

This student made tie-dye water-themed shirts to wear during the

#MockGlobal6K!

Collaboration = Inspiration

In a Zoom session earlier this school year hosted by, “Define Your Why,” author Barbara Bray, a few educators discussed inquiry based learning being their passion.  Two of these teachers, Stephanie Rothstein, and Traci Browder, continued the conversation offline, inviting Barbara to join the journey.

Connecting with Flipgrid

Browder and Rothstein’s classes introduced themselves using Flipgrid. High school students in California proceeded to conduct their own research and humanitarianism efforts while kindergartners did the same in Texas.

Classes Meet and an Invitation

Meanwhile, Mrs. Rothstein’s advanced honors high school class has been doing their own research projects on unrelated topics. Mrs. Rothsein’s class & Mrs. Browder’s class met on Zoom to share their humanitarian projects. Mrs. Browder’s class also invited Mrs. Rothstein’s class to join them on May 23rd for the Global 6K.

It is Browder, Rothstein, Todd (Rothstein’s student teacher) and Bray’s hope that this experience is only the beginning of students being global citizens.  Special thanks to Bray for pointing Browder's class toward SDG 6!

More Than Inquiry Based Learning

These teachers are providing their students a memorable experience with a vastly different grade level. Students are:

  • Learning the importance of listening and communication skills.

  • Understanding the value of innovation in technology.

  • Understanding world issues.

  • Passionately and strategically thinking about being mindful consumers of resources and how to be difference-makers in society.

Kindergarten Students Take a Great Idea from High School Students...The Birth of a Website

Mrs. Rothstein’s students have created their own websites for their humanitarian projects including women’s rights, Asian hate awareness, and more. Mrs. Browder decided to present the idea of creating a website based on their water crisis activism to her own class. The students loved the idea, so Mrs. Browder began walking students through web-design.  Parents teamed up and supervised break-out rooms guiding students through creating the content for the tabs of the website!  The Wix website, Water Little Helpers was born!
